News Sites
A few of the better ways I've found to keep up on what's going down.
BBC.com - Disturbingly enough, one of the best sources for news about the US is the British Broadcasting Company.
CNN.com - The website of CNN , a great domestic news source.
Fark.com - Not a news sight really, but a collection of links to interesting sites that is constantly updated.
National Public Radio - NPR is one of the best sources of information in this country.
Political Opinon/Commentary/Etc.
History House - An excellent source for historical information, pulls no punches.
Open Secrets - A site dedicated to providing the American people with information about our governmenr that isn't easy to come by on our own.
SpinSanity - My favorite political site, a non-partisan site dedicated to correcting political spin where ever it occures.
Activism, Human Rights, Animal Rights, Social Reform
Amnesty International - An organization that reports on current human rights violations around the world, and the effort to end them.
The Anti-DMCA Website - The Digital Millenium Copyright Act was a bad idea from the start. A law passed by people who are not artists, and have demonstrated a poor understanding of technology, who were urged to do so by industries that profit disproportionately from the work of others, and fear any technology that might threaten their outdated business models. If you would like to help repeal this dangerous and damaging law, this is a good place to start.
Boycott RIAA - The Recording Industry Association of America has gone too far. Their unfair yet highly profitable business model started falling apart, and they responded by suing music lovers and asking the government to intervien on their behalf. The people have spoken, the free market has spoken, the RIAA is a dinosaur. If you want to send the RIAA a clear message, you have to hit them where it hurts, this site is a great way to learn how.
Corporate MoFo - A fantastic site brimming with intelligent and piercing socio-political commentary. Read up.
Doctors Without Borders - It takes a special kind of person to go into some of the most god forsaken places on Earth and try to help people. They need and deserve our support.
The EFF Homepage - The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a group that fights to preserve the right to freely share information and ideas online, which it believes to be as important as our other civil liberties.
Human Rights Watch - Another site that keeps you up to date on current human rights violations around the world.
Media Reform Network - Information is power, a populace that recieves incorrect or lacking information is a weak one.
MoveOn.org - Liberal web site currently working to oust President Bush. A bit radical for my tastes in some ways, but overall a great site.
Planned Parenthood - Whatever your feelings on abortion, and other reproductive health issues, these people are trying to do some good. An excellent source of information on these issues as well.
World Watch - A site dedicated to research and thought about creating sustainable energy and a smoothly working society.
