Web Comics

Comics on the web. Kind of like this one, only they probably update on time.

Web Comics I Read Regularly
No 4th Wall to Break - Random and very clever fun.
Penny Arcade - Video game themed (mostly), possibly the biggest web comic out there, and one of the best.
PVP Online - An old favorite about the employees of a video game magazine that's still going strong.
Taking The Bi-Pass - Observational humor, word play, and short jokes, what's not to love?
Theater Hopper - A fun send up to movie fandom.
Wapsi Square - An interesting, almost slice of life style comic chronicling the everyday lives of a number of very different, very interesting women.

Other Web Comics I Recommend
Checkerboard Nightmare - Pokes fun at web comics, fame, and celebrity itself to hilarious effect.
Instant Classic - Classy movie themed comic, seems to focus more on indie film making than Hollywood (I've just been getting into this one myself).
Irregular Web comic! - Bad puns, clever word play, funny observations, and legos.
The Joy of Tech - A single panel comic offering a send up to the latest happenings in the computer world, focusing more on Macs and Apple than anything else.
Life of Riley - Someone's played too many video games and watched too many animes...
Mac Hall - Usually entertaining, always stunning, some of the best comic art on the web.
Oh My Gods! - A pagan themed strip that pokes fun at social norms.
Real Life - A popular web comic that can best be described as real life with the volume turned way up (I'm not exactly sure what that means).
Serenity Rose - A beautiful, somber comic about a young witch living in the strangest town in America, where monsters, magic, and social angst are real. Also availible as a print comic.

No Longer Running
D+Pad - Retail has never been this much fun (has been updating every few months lately).
Movie Comics - Movie themed comics that are often funny, if often mean spirited as well (recently ended, but the archives are still up for now).
Movie Punks - A great high meets low brow experience (is no longer running, though Carrington has said the archives will stay up indefinitely).
No Pants Tuesday - A couple guys, a demon monkey, and the devil walk into a bar (hasn't been updated since September of '03)...
Nothing Nice to Say - Punk web comic, had a great run, but artist/writer Mitch Clem has moved on to other projects.
Slackerz! - Edgy and opinionated commentary on everything and anything (the original writer recently quit the strip, hopefully the now artist/writer can keep it up).

Other Web Art

Everything that's art based but not a web comic, from flash cartoons to professional illustration, my favorite of what's out there.

Cow Kitty Studios - The online portfolio of an artist who goes by the online handle CowKitty.
Exploding Dog - This guy takes titles sent in by his readers and makes strange, surreal drawings based on them. Beautiful and charming in their simplicity.
Homestar Runner - An extremely popular Flash cartoon site that makes it mostly on its collection of bizarre and unique characters. I especially recommend the StrongBad E-Mails.
sThing Design and Illustration - Fantastic professional illustrations featuring a very unique style and a flair for brilliant understatement.
Toothpaste for Dinner - Strange, crude little sketches depicting one odd outlook on life.
Weeble's Stuff - Very strange flash animations, often featuring original songs. I especially recommend the badger cartoon.
Yoda's Boy - The online portfolio of a Star Wars fan, who happens to be one hell of an artist.

Humor Sites

Non-comic, non-art based humor sites.

The Onion - Parody news site of the highest order. Fantastic humor and social commentary.
The New Forum - A collection of news parody articles similar to The Onion, always good for a laugh. Since February 2004, I've been an editor and occasional writer for The New Forum.

Comic Resources

Some pages relating to web and print comics.

Buzz Comics - A top 100 type list of web comics. Member comics get voted on, through links on their web sites (like the one in the upper right of every post on the comic page, hint hint) and rated according to the number of votes received (the list is reset at the beginning of every month). Theater Hopper, Taking the Bi-Pass, and of course Life of Convenience are member comics.
Dayfree Press - A community of web comic creators working together to support each others work. Theater Hopper and Instant Classic are both member comics.
PolyKarbon - A wonderful collection of galleries and tutorials focusing on manga style art.
Scott McCloud.com - The personal web site and playground of Scott McCloud, author of "Understanding Comics" and "Reinventing Comics", two brilliant examinations of the art of the comic, both on-line and off.
